How Many Calories Do You Burn When Doing Crunches?

Number Of Calories Burned Doing Crunches

Why you are searching for the answer of how many calories do you burn when doing crunches? Do you care how much calories you are burning while doing abdominal exercises?

You have to stop worry about how many calories you burn and to worry how many calories you take. Why? Because your burn no more than 50 calories when doing crunches. You can do crunches for 30 minutes and you will burn calories equal to a glass of fruit juice.

The only benefit of crunches is that they make your abs harder and bigger and if you burn the fat over your abdominal muscles you can see you six pack abs. Every person has 6 pack abs. But not everybody can see them, because they lie under the fat.

Now you know the wrong question:

How many calories do you burn when doing crunches?

And you have to ask yourself the right questions:

How many calories I eat every day?

And how these calories are distributed: calories from protein, calories from carbohydrates and calories from fat.

Calorie Weight Loss Rule

To loose weight follow eating 40% protein, 40% carbohydrates and 20% fats per day distributed in 5-6 meals.

How many calories to take in order to loose weight?

It is your body weight in pounds*10

For example if your weight is 150 pounds you have to eat 150*10=1500 calories per day

How to distribute 1500 calories?

1 gram protein is 4 calories
1 gram carbohydrate is 4 calories

1 gram fat is 9 calories

Protein=1500*40%= 600 calories or 150 grams of protein per day

Carbs=1500*40%= 600 calories or 150 grams of carbs per day

Fats=1500*20%=300 calories or 33 grams of fats per day

If you follow these calories’ distribution and exercise regularly (3 or 4 times per week) you will loose weight not only in your abs but in all areas – your stomach will be flat and you will enjoy your life.

Remember not to count how many calories your burn when doing crunches but to count how many calories you eat every day.

  1. I struggle with this advice b/c I have a severely sluggish thyroid and I do not metabolize the way other people do, even when I am extremely active. I am a runner, I cycle, and I play tennis. After two injuries, even watching my diet, I gained 15 lbs. because I was unable to exercise. If I followed this formula, I would be incredibly overweight. What do you suggest we “tweak” in the formula if we have hypothyroidism?

  2. I only eat 1200 calories per day but I just had a baby in November and my stomach is not that pretty now. I am losing weight by cutting back on the calories however even if you do that you still need to do crunches to firm your stomach. I use myfitnesspal.com and personally would like to add calories burned from doing crunches because I deserve the credit for the effort.

  3. I agree with you Melanie…I use myfitnesspal.com also and would definitely love to have those calories taken off!

  4. I am also wondering because I use myfitnesspal. Also…. Contests to the mom that had her baby in Nov… Mine was born in Sept… If you re nursing u need 1800 + calories or else your body goes into starvation mode and milk production goes down. I was eating too little and that’s what happened to me.

  5. Okay, I am severely overweight, obese even, and if my caloric intake was 10x my body weight I’d be getting almost 2500 calories a day to lose weight. That formula (or the way it is phrased) is incorrect.

  6. This is incorrect, using that calculation tells you how many calories you need to maintain your weight. It is basically your BMR. In order to lose 1 pound per week you need a deficit of 3500 calories either by eating less or doing more exercise, preferably both. So if you are 250 pounds you roughly need 2500 calories per day to maintain this (though it does vary based on how active you are) over a week if a 250 pound person cut down to 2000 calories per day, there would be a deficit of 3500 calories resulting in a one pound weight loss. If they consumed 1500 calories perday after a week there would be a deficit of 7000 calories resulting in a two pound weight loss. More could be achieved through becoming more active, though a sensible weight loss of 1-2 pounds per week is encouraged. You should never eat less than 1200 calories perday.

  7. This article is bullsh*t. An average male needs around 2500 calories a day. This article suggests that you starve yourself of nearly half your daily calorific needs. Don’t listen to this guy, people.

  8. @Aidan, if the man is 250 pounds, then he needs 2500 calories, but if is a woman 150 pounds, she needs 1500 calories.

@Kelly, it is just an example of person weighing 150 pounds. In your example it will be 2500 calories per day.
